Sports signs are not commonly taught. Football, baseball, soccer, and basketball are an integral part of American culture and thus must be a part of ASL/English interpreters language schema. This workshop will cover the ASL signs for the fundamentals of the sports, the signs for professional sports team names, as well as common depictions and concepts used to visually show plays, provide updates and give commentary.  PRESENTED IN ASL

Presenter Information

Deaf since birth, a native American Sign Language, user and active member of the Deaf
community, Erik Hoover is an ASL instructor at the University of North Florida, an interpreter assessment
rater, and a Deaf interpreter for Sorenson Communications. He has participated in language advisory
panels and corroborated with the Assistant District Attorney as a language expert. An avid learner and
ASL enthusiast, Erik regularly presents workshops and is continuously involved in applied linguistics. On
a personal note- he loves traveling, sports, a faith life, and spending time with his wife and five kids.
